Description

In this episode:

  • Severe symptomatic aortic stenosis carries a terrible prognosis
  • We need to listen to our patient’s chest once a year to pick up aortic stenosis early
  • Referral to a cardiologist for evaluation early is advised
  • The patient’s age, absence of presence of symptoms, severity of stenosis on ECHO and need to consider future surgical interventions are to be discussed by the cardiothoracic surgeon and the patient
  • TAVI has made it worthwhile for asymptomatic patients to be considered for surgery as evidence has shown beneficial outcomes with less leakage and less need for a pacemaker with later generations of the TAVI devices
