Gluten-Free Diet – A Practical Guide
Prof Finlay Macrae AO

Be it coeliac disease or gluten intolerance, overcoming the challenges of diagnosis and gluten avoidance is key to effective management. Increasingly, it appears, people are avoiding gluten in an attempt to alleviate abdominal symptoms such as bloating and pain. In this webcast, Prof Finlay Macrae will present an update on what the guidelines recommend in terms of diagnosing coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity. In addition, he will outline a practical approach to the management of these conditions that will include tips to overcoming common challenges patients face when trying to adopt a gluten-free diet as well as advice on what to do for patients whose abdominal symptoms don't resolve with dietary measures.

Cervical Cancer Screening Update
Dr Nomvuyo Mothobi

For most GPs, self-collection for cervical screening has dramatically changed clinical practice. Self-collection can be offered to all routine (asymptomatic) cervical screening patients. It is also an acceptable option for patients who want to practice preventive health but are uncomfortable with a speculum exam. But there are questions. Is self-collection accurate and reliable? What is the failure rate? Who should not be offered self-collection? What is the best management of an abnormal result? How do I explain the options to my patients so they can make an informed choice about how they screen? In this talk, Dr Nomvuyo Mothobi will answer these important questions and more, flag some important upcoming changes to the cervical screening clinical guidelines and bring you up to date on the current landscape of cervical screening in Australia.

Heart Failure – Non-Pharmacological Management
Prof Andrew Sindone

Non-pharmacological treatments are still fundamental to the optimal management of heart failure. Even though drug therapy for this condition has advanced significantly in recent years, patients still need to be educated about non-drug heart failure treatments. As Professor Andrew Sindone will explain, diet, fluid restriction and exercise are just some of the areas that need addressing when managing heart failure patients according to best practice guidelines. And the importance of these and other non-pharmacological measures should not be underestimated.

Heart Failure – Multi-Disciplinary Cardiac Rehabilitation
Prof Andrew Sindone

While GPs remain the key players in managing heart failure, patients have been shown to benefit if they receive multidisciplinary care. In this talk, cardiologist Professor Andrew Sindone presents the case for including other health professionals in the care of patients with heart failure. He will outline the important role they can play and the specific needs they can meet, and how, with effective collaboration and communication, their inclusion will help ensure heart failure patients live longer, healthier lives.
