Description

In this episode:

  • GPs must give all patients with abnormal LFTs a positive diagnosis
  • Use ALT levels of 19 for women and 30 for men and investigate all who are higher
  • Triage at the GP level consists of calculators stratifying cirrhosis risk (links attached) where negative or very low numbers are of greatest value
  • Those with moderate to higher risks should have degree of fibrosis assessed with a fibroscan
  • A fibroscan result > 8.5 should alert us to refer to a hepatologist or liver clinic, equates to moderate fibrosis
  • Uncomplicated MAFLD compels us to treat all CVD risk factors aggressively
