About this activity:

This mini-audit will focus on understanding whether or not older patients in your practice are having cardiac auscultation done at a frequency sufficient to detect valvular disease in its early stages, and to detect more advanced valvular disease that may not yet be suspected.

Instructions for completing this activity:

  1. Watch the video lecture by Dr Nicholas Aroney on ‘Early detection of aortic stenosis for better outcomes’.
  2. Identify patients who:
    • Is over 65 years-of-age
    • Is a regular patient you’ve seen over the last 12 months
  3. Randomly select 10 patients that fit the profile above
  4. Download the mini-audit report/template provided within the module
  5. Complete the questions outlined in the mini-audit report/template. These questions will involve:
    • Documenting the findings for each patient
    • Writing a reflection on the clinical importance of regular cardiac auscultation and how you might change your practice and approach as a result of this activity
  6. Submit the mini-audit report back to Healthed within the module

 

Note:

  • Please note you will not be able to enrol into this activity after 31 Dec. You will however be able to finish completing this activity in January 2024 if you have already enrolled prior
  • Learners will have until Sunday 31 December to complete this activity if they would like CPD hours uploaded into their 2023 account (if they are with the RACGP)
  • Complete at your own pace – you can start, pause and return to this activity as the system will remember where you left off
  • Electronic certificate can be downloaded directly from the module upon completion and approval of the activity submitted
  • This activity is accredited with the RACGP. Healthed will upload CPD hours for RACGP members (others may be able to self-claim this activity)
