Description

In this episode:

  • GP Specialist responsibilities related to consent, confidentiality, mandatory reporting, concept of the mature minor
  • Prior to prescribing – the importance of having a good medical history, gynecological history, family history (e.g. endometriosis, premature ovarian insufficiency etc.) and rare need for physical examination (recommend recording weight, BP and self-collected chlamydia swab)
  • The first-choice pill is the 30 mg option with levonorgestrel, with a review scheduled after 3 months
  • Contraceptive choices should consider specific reasons e.g. acne, weight, impact on mood
  • Common clinical considerations you will encounter – when can women start an OCP after menarche, migraine and contraindications for low dose pill and the long-term use of OCPs
