Description

In this episode:

  • Catching the flu significantly increases the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, hospitalisation for heart failure and increased CV morality
  • The influenza vaccine can reduce the risk of many of these complications by a magnitude of benefit, similar to cigarette smoking cessation
  • Ensure all high risk CV patients receive influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations and, if possible, give the vaccines that offer the greatest protection
