Dr Janet Green, Senior Lecturer and Registered Nurse
In this presentation, Dr Janet Green will help GPs understand the causes of low milk supply in breastfeeding mothers, such as poor latch, ineffective milk transfer, or underlying medical conditions. She will emphasise the importance of proper latch techniques and positioning to support better milk production. Dr Green will also highlight when it’s necessary to seek further assistance from a lactation consultant or other healthcare providers, and guide you on where to refer mothers for additional support.
Prof Elizabeth Denney-Wilson, Professor of Nursing
In this presentation, Prof Elizabeth Denney-Wilson will address the challenges and societal pressures surrounding mixed feeding, offering insights into how these factors can impact both mothers and infants. She will discuss strategies for optimising breastmilk options for the infant, emphasising the role of responsive feeding. Prof Denney-Wilson will explain the importance of observing the infant’s hunger cues rather than adhering to a rigid feeding schedule. Additionally, she will explore the significance of selecting the best formula to complement breastfeeding, ensuring that infants receive the most appropriate nourishment for their development.
