The evidence for managing lipids to prevent cardiovascular events, especially in people already known to have heart disease, is pretty overwhelming. But, as any GP knows, lipid management is not always straightforward. In this talk, Associate Professor Ralph Audehm will discuss some of the cholesterol challenges commonly seen in clinical practice and how they are best managed based on the latest evidence. In addition, he will also provide an update on newer medications for lipid management, giving GPs an overview of where they are expected to fit into the treatment of this very prevalent condition.
It's estimated that around 100,000 people are dependent on opioids in Australia. It can be hard for patients to acknowledge that they are dependent, it can be harder again to find the right support and treatment. In this talk, Dr Adam Straub -Addiction Medicine and General Medicine Physician from Geelong Victoria, presents the current state of play when it comes to identifying, diagnosing and treating opioid dependence in primary care and will outline what can feasibly be achieved in real world general practice.
